August 2016 PopSugar Must Have Box

power charger, cargo blush, Cookie Pop cookies and cream popcorn, Duck bag, sticky notes, screen cleaner
It's been awhile since I can say that I love everything in the PopSugar Must Have Box but August had some pleasant surprises!

Cargo Cosmetics "The Big Easy" Powder Blush - a soft peach color that I think would compliment any complexion; however, it might not show up well on darker skin
Retail $26

Cookie Pop Popcorn in Cookies & Cream -  This looks and sounds delicious but we will see.  It could go either way
Retail $3.99

Unplugged Dusti Screen Cleaner - The cleaners stick to your phone or phone cases.  Can be washed and reused.  It's a great concept but they are pretty small
Retail $5.99

Baggu Duck Bag - This is not something I would have purchased for myself, which is why I love these subscription boxes, but I love this bag.  I actually put the bag of popcorn in it to stand it up and you can't even see it.  The bag is pretty tall.  It is made of a heavy canvas that is made from recycled fabric, has an adjustable strap and an inside pocket.  Visit their website for more information, pictures and color choices
Retail $26

Triple C PowerGloss in Silver - A portable charger.  We have a couple of these and when we had a power outage found that they came in really handy.  This one is sleek and perfect for your handbag
Retail $30

Christian Lacroix Paris Paseo Sticky Note Folio - This is also great for your handbag.  Sticky notes come in handy while in the car or out and about
Retail $13

Dash Go Rapid Egg Cooker

poached eggs, soft boiled eggs, omelette, quick, fast breakfast
The DashNGo Egg cooker will definitely be in my summertime favorites (soon to be up on my blog).

To be honest, I purchased this egg cooker from Kohl's about six months ago and it has been sitting in my cupboard until one day I remembered I bought it and thought I should probably give it a try.

Mornings can get a little hectic so what I do is get the dog fed, get an egg cooking, put toast in the toaster oven and get ready. By the time I finish my make-up, the egg and toast are done, PERFECTLY!  You can choose soft, medium or hard boiled or you can make a poached egg or an omelette.  The omelette doesn't really make sense to me but I have used the poaching tray and it also works great!

You just pour the water in the cup for the desired cook, poke the egg with the little "pin" on the bottom of the water container, put the lid on, turn it on and walk away.  Now don't be alarmed, it isn't a spaceship landing, it is the timer letting you know the eggs are done.

For under $15, this invention is pretty amazing.  I think you can cook up to six eggs at one time but only two poached.

I purchased mine from Kohl's but they also carry them on Amazon.  Using coupons/coupon codes on Kohls.com along with EBates may make it a little cheaper than Amazon but it is worth the price no matter where you end up getting it.

First Impressions: Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes

deodorant wipes, under arm, pacifica, feet, coconut milk
I received the Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes in the June PopSugar Box and when I first opened them, I was a little taken back by the scent.  Not pleasant in my mind (or nose).  I can't really describe it, just wasn't something I wanted to smell like on a hot day.  So, they sat in my drawer for awhile until during such hot day my feet were getting a little sweaty in my sandals.  A light bulb went off.  Who says you have to use them under your arms?!  I took out a wipe and rubbed it on the soles of my feet.  The smell of these is at least better than stinky feet.

It performed okay. I liked that it dried to kind a matte feel so that my feet weren't slippery.  It seems to keep them drier than they would be normally on a warm day and did control the foot odor to some extent.  Now mind you, this is not the intention of these wipes given that they have "underarm" in the name but if you purchased a package and thought the same thing I did upon getting a whiff, you may want to consider other applications.

Would I repurchase?  No.  But at least they aren't going to waste.

First Impressions: Native Deodorant

paragon free, aluminum free, unscented, deodorant, natural
I've been on the hunt for a good natural deodorant.  If it helped control wetness without the bad stuff, that would be great too but probably not too likely.  Although I have to say the Arm & Hammer does a pretty good job.

Real Simple had an article about natural deodorants and Native was the highest rated.  I got the unscented because I really don't like my deodorant to overpower my perfume.

It went on nicely, didn't leave white marks that I could tell but I really wasn't looking for it and there was absolutely NO scent.

Let me tell you, I don't know what Real Simple was talking about.  I typically don't get stinky pits that easily.  Especially after just showering but this stuff did not work at all.  I don't know if it was the ingredients mixing with my own body chemicals or what but it was not good.

After I received the product I got an email from Native with helpful hints with the last line reading "It can take up to 14 days to get the maximum effectiveness.  Stick with it."  REALLY?!  14 days of stinky pits in order for it to work?  Why do you have to wait that long for it to be effective? I don't get that at all.

For $12, it should have been a lot better than the LaVanilla but it didn't even come close.  Don't waste your money on this product.

If you have any other suggestions, please share them in the comment section!

sachajuan, house of pom, michael stars, pintrill, sunny life, european wax center, joes chips, snacks, home, drink holder
Sadly I have to say, the July 2016 PopSugar Must Have box is probably the most disappointing I have received since I signed up.  The box included:

Sachajuan Hair in the Sun - Not really sure how to use it so if you have have used this before I would love to hear from you in the comments below
Retail $32

House of Pom Emoji Cocktail Napkins - Cute but...
Retail $25

Retail $30 (wow)

Pintrill Pineapple Pin - Again, cute but what do you do with it?!
Retail $12

Sunnylife Inflatable Swan Drink Holder - REALLY?  WTH am I suppose to do with this?  It doesn't even look big enough to hold a normal size glass or beer and even if it was...
Retail $18

European Wax Center Oh My Brow Brow Highlighter - This isn't too bad
Retail $19

Joe Chips Classic Sea Salt Retro Potato Chips - Although it is free of a lot of things, it doesn't say Non-GMO

Trash OR Treasures Early Summer 2016 Edition

skincare, cosmetics, shampoo, hair care, styling products, makeup, samples, scentsy, wipes
It's time for another round of TRASH or TREASURES.

Samples
Dior Forever Foundation - This was highly rated on Nordstrom.com but I just didn't care for it.  The coverage wasn't as good as others I have tried and it wasn't flattering to my skin type (larger pores, some fine lines, dry in spots but oily t-zone).  The full size is $50

Marc Jacobs Perfecting Coconut Primer - This was okay but I didn't do what I need a primer to do which is address my problem areas as mentioned above.  Full size is $44 on Sephora.com

Trish McEvoy Instant Solutions BB - This is a spendy product at $85 (now on sale at Nordstrom) so I had high expectations.  You have to apply this lightly and quickly for when it drys it is SET!  It really helped keep my oily spots under control, I don't feel like it did much for evening my skin tone but it did help my makeup stay longer than a lot of other primers I have tried.  I don't use BB creams for foundation, I want them to perform as a primer

Makeup
Revlon ColorStay 24 Hour Foundation - This is a drugstore favorite and will continue to purchase

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream - This was actually in a subscription box from years ago and finally finished it.  I have since purchased another one as I really like how it evens out my skin tone.  I can use this as a quick out the door product.  It really doesn't do much else that I can tell but it doesn't accentuate my fine lines or pores

ColorPop Cream Eye Shadow - I like these products but if you don't screw the lids on tight, they are going to dry out.  I think you need to commit to using them pretty quickly

Revlon Volume + Length Mascara - This was in a subscription box and not worth the money.  I will see if anyone else wants to give it a try

Boscia Blotting Papers - These perform well and are my favorite blotting papers.  They remove the oil and not the makeup

Haircare
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle - I forgot how much I like this conditioner.  I have been using it daily as an apply and rinse but also as a hair mask.  Both work well and do not weigh down my fine hair

L'Oreal Boost It Air Blown Texture Mist - I have two back ups of this product.  Volume without weighing down and the smell is nice

Body Products
Alba Very Emollient Cream Shave in Mango Vanilla - I have been using this product for a long time.  I like the scent and the moisturizing effect and will continue to repurchase

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash - My skin needs something moisturizing without a lot of scents which can sometimes irritate my skin.  I love this and will continue to repurchase

Skincare
Paula's Choice Resist Foaming BHA 4% - I really like what this product does for my skin.  It makes it brighter and helps control breakouts.  I have reordered but the recent bottle has a bothersome scent.  Almost like rotten meat or something.  I contacted Paula's Choice and they did send out a new bottle but it was the same thing.  You can't smell it until you have applied it to your skin.  Anyone else having this issue?

Other
Swisspers Cotton Rounds - These were a Costco purchase and a great deal.  I will repurchase

Honest Wipes - I have repurchased and will continue

Honest Dryer Clothes - I have repurchased and will continue.  If you are sensitive to dryer sheets or don't like your clothes smelling like dryer sheets, these are for you

Scentsy Bars in Root Beer Float, Sticky Cinnamon Bun and Silver Bells - Sticky Cinnamon Bun is no longer available so I am really bummed about that.  Root Beer Float is also retired and Silver Bells I think is just a winter scent but they are all my faves

First Impressions: Drunk Elephant JuJu Bar

soap, face, thermal mud, super fruit, ph balanced, exfoliate, bamboo, marula, sephora
I am not a bar soap person.  Usually they are bad for your skin but Paula's Choice rated the JuJu Bar by Drunk Elephant, "Best" so I decided to give it a try during the Sephora VIB sale.

It's a spendy bar of soap at $28 but I am guessing it will last awhile.

PROS:

It has an exfoliating texture that stays in the suds as you rub it on your face

No scent to speak of

PH balanced so it won't strip and dry out your skin

It completely removes my makeup

It is formulated without essential oils (which although you see them in a lot of beauty products are actually bad for your skin), fragrance and dyes

They support the IEF (International Elephant Foundation) - I love Elephants!!

I have noticed a difference in my skin since I started using it about a week ago.  My pores do seem smaller, skin is soft and smooth and I think less "oily"

CONS:

The price BUT, if it lasts awhile, I'd say it's worth it

If you are comfortable with the price point, I HIGHLY recommend giving this soap a try.  I am going to buy the travel size that comes with another one of their soaps next.  More to come!

If you decide to give it a try, be sure to use EBates so that you get an extra 4-8% cash back at Sephora!

UPDATE 7/21/16 - There isn't even a dent in this bar.  Loving it!

The April 2016 PopSugar Must Have Box included:

Chrissy Tiegen's cookbook Cravings - There are a lot of recipes in this book I want to try.  They aren't anything fancy and probably recipes you could find all over the internet but it's a fun cookbook!  Too bad they aren't signed!
Retail $29.99

Canvas Home Tinware Salt & Pepper Shakers - Has a quite antique look to them but who really needs more salt and pepper shakers?!
Retail $12

Next by Nature Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans - I can't hate to try these!  Not a fan of coffee beans but with dark chocolate, it just might work!
Retail $3.99

Farmacy Sleep Tight Firming Night Cream - This has a medicinal scent to it.  I need to look up the ingredients before I put it on my face.  If not great, I can use it on my body.
Retail $48

Noon Design Shop Lemons Flour Sack Tea Towel - Cute design and pretty good size
Retail $18

Royal Apothem Fiel Poppy Conservatories Hand Cream - Strong scent that I don't care for so will be giving this away

Hydracentials Stainless Steel Water Bottle

insulated stainless steel, straw, white, best water bottle, keeps really cold
My husband just rolls his eyes every time he sees another water bottle enter the house. I can't say that I blame him BUT I use one every day and need something that meets my needs.

I don't really drink hot drinks so I just need something that keeps my water cold.  Insulated plastic is okay during the winter because it isn't exposed to heat, which causes those bad chemicals to leach into the water your are drinking.

The ideal water bottle in the hot months is stainless steel. The Hydracentials water bottle is just what I was looking for and the best part is that it has a straw!  I have had others that worked well but I really don't like to drink out of a cup you have to tip while driving.  This is PERFECT! Because it has a plastic straw, you can't drink hot drinks out of it but that is fine with me.

I got mine from Amazon but I think you can also buy them directly from the maker.  Be forewarned, this isn't a cheap date.  I think I paid almost $30 but it will get everyday use now through the fall and maybe even longer.  If I fill it with ice and water, it will last a good 24-48 hours depending on the temperature it is sitting in or if it is in direct sun.  The white is great for that as it deflects the sun.

If you want a hot/cold option, the Camelbak Eddy is a good option.  Although I used glass straws for mine.

I think the Bubba can also work with hot and cold but it doesn't have a straw.

Techno Weenie Tuesday - AliveCor Mobile ECG/EKG

EKG, FDA approved, ECG, EEG, mobile, app, iOS, android, doctor recommended
Because I love my primary care physician, I haven't changed doctors even though I have to drive 180 miles to see him.  Typically it works out because, knock on wood, I have been fairly healthy.  However, when visiting my GYN, she was listening to my heart and mentioned it skipped a beat so I told her about some of the other symptoms I have been having all of which could very well be stress or anxiety but I try to be mindful of that as much as I can.

Anyway, having taken CPR I know the symptoms of a stroke and heart attack so I wasn't too concerned about my other symptoms but thought it best to call my doctor to get his opinion.  He suggested I get the AliveCor Mobile ECG device and keep my appointment that I had already scheduled in May.

I just used it fort he first time.  You first have to download an app on your Apple or Android device and then follow the instructions which include placing your fingers on the monitor.  You have to be very still for it to work.  After you do this for the first time, your results are sent to a Cardiologist at AliveCor.  The results come back within 24 hours.  Mine were back within 2 hours.  Normal!  Whew!  But now I can monitor it when I am symptomatic.

The app allows you to enter notes with each monitor such as chest pains, shortness of breath, etc.  You can also record voice notes if you'd rather.  It then allows you to print out your ECGs in PDF format or you can upload it for your physician to access.  Technology is AMAZING!

This is still new to me so I will update you with anything exciting.

Visit the AliveCor website to learn more!

Estee Lauder Mini Haul April 2016

cream highlighter, lash primer, gift with purchase, estee lauder
I am such a sucker for free gift with purchase!  Although, I tend not to buy things just for that reason.  In this case, I received an email from Estee Lauder telling me about their promotion.

Don't you just love that bag?!  I love Estee Lauder products anyway and was in need of a new lash primer and since I love the Estee Lauder mascara, I thought I would just go ahead and give it a try.  Then I came across the Double Wear Brush on Glow.  What the heck.  I needed to spend $40 and these two product put me just slightly over.

In the bag I received a few creams, a face wash, lip gloss and mascara.  I will use all of those products so nothing goes to waste.

We all get into the routine of buying through major retailers but don't forget to check the direct route.  Sometimes they offer better promotions and many of them also subscribe to EBATES so you get even more of a reward!  And another tip no matter where you shop, look for promo codes.  Do a search!  Typically I find mine at www.retailmenot.com.
