PopSugar All Star Mystery Box October 2016

cargo, clean, bottle opener, hair mask, scarf, gluten free snacks, pixie, briogeo
I was super excited to get the email announcing the POPSUGAR ALL STAR MYSTERY Box at $24.95 that I ordered it right away thinking it would sell out quick. Rather than rewriting I am just going to link to the past posts of the original boxes.  If I tried and have any updates I will add them here.

Cargo Blush

Briogeo Don't Despair Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask - I am glad that this was included as I like the product and will not go to waste

Pixi by Petra Beauty Book

Clean Cool Cotton Body Lotion - I don't think this is one that I received but from what I can tell right away it has a very strong scent

Michael Stars Porcelain Skinny Scarf

The GFB Dark Chocolate Coconut Bites - If you like gluten free products, you will probably like these but they are not something I would purchase

Sisters of Los Angeles Cheers Gold Bottle Opener

So although there were a couple of products that I will use or feel good giving away, I don't think that I would ever purchase the ALL STAR box again.  Thankfully the price of the hair mask and bottle opener covers the cost of the box.

Trash OR Treasures October 2016

It's Trash OR Treasures time and there is a lot so let's get started:

Affresh Washer Cleaner -  I would repurchase this again but I am not sure if I would get another front load washing machine.  If I don't use these tablets at least once a month, I end up getting black marks on my clothes

Honest Company Dryer Sheets - These too are a repurchase.  I like that my clothes don't smell like a dryer sheet when I put them on.  These aren't like the typical dryer sheet, they are wet.  They are a little more spendy but worth it.

Dawn Foaming Refill - I don't know why this is so hard to find.  I typically buy mine from Walmart.  Again, this is a repurchase.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash - So many body washes make me itchy.  This one doesn't and feels more moisturizing.  The scent is subtle, which I also like

Batiste Dry Shampoo - This is by far my favorite dry shampoo.  It smells nice and works REALLY well and you can't beat the price.  Give this a try before spending a lot of money

OGX Teatree Mint Shampoo - I got this for my husband.  Not impressed.  Would not repurchase

Ulta Pure Color Conditioner - There is still some left in the bottle.  I just do not care for this conditioner and would not repurchase

Aveeno Theraputic Shave Gel - I love the body wash but not the shave gel.  It is about the same price but I felt like I had to use a lot more.  It also didn't feel moisturizing.  I will stick with my Alba

Macadamia Deep Repair Mask - I love this mask and I have tried a few.  The smell is nice and doesn't feel like it is just coating my hair like a few I have tried including the newest one I received in one of my Ulta hauls

Paula's Choice 2% BHA Gel - I like to switch between BHA and AHA and will always choose Paula's Choice.  I prefer the gel over the liquid

Kroger Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover - This is a dupe, if not better, than Neutrogena for a lot less money

Scentsy Bars - Root Beer Float (fave), Toasted Apple Butter (good), Crunch Top (good) and Happy Birthday (fave)

Paula's Choice 10% AHA Body Lotion - I swear by this stuff for the girls, my upper arms, thighs and bum.  It helps keep my skin firm and also helps eliminate those little bumps on the back of my arms

Gum Pro Brush - OMG, I don't know how people use these things.  I got the tight ones and they killed my gums

Origins VitaZing - Love hate relationship with this.  I love the feel of it, how it evens out my skin tone and that it doesn't get greasy BUT I trust Paula's Choice reviews and this lotion contains ingredients that are not good for your skin so will not repurchase

Yankee Candle Sparkling Cinnamon Air Freshener - Love the spray on these.  Would repurchase

Maybelline Lash Sensational, Dior CILS Booster XL and Sephora Rouge Gel Lip Liner - I have repurchased everything but the Booster XL.  I have quite a few samples to get through but love the L'Oreal product and feel it is a dupe for this product

Briogeo Don't Despair Repair Hair Mask - I actually got a full size in a recent PopSugar Box and like it.

Trish McEvoy BB Instant Solutions - This stuff is SPENDY but I like it.  I think it does a good job as a primer and controlling the oil in my t-zone

Keranique Micro-Exfoliating Follicle Revitalizing Hair Mask - This is said to be good for people with an oily scalp or have flaking.  It is a spendy item but I liked it so I decided to get the full size.  It is on sale at Ulta plus you can use the 20% off coupon.  Use EBates and save even more!

Kat Von D Lock-it Featherweight Primer - I think this is a pretty good primer but not sure if I liked it enough to purchase the full size

Two Drugstore Products I Am LOVING Right Now

L'Oreal Voluminous Primer Base, Covergirl Outlast All Day Primer, primer, mascara, oily combo skin, lengthen eyelashes
Both of these products came from my recent Ulta Haul.

Covergirl Outlast All-Day Primer - What I love is that is minimizes the appearance of my pores, doesn't feel really slick but allows for a smooth application of my foundation AND it does seem to make my foundation last all-day.  I guess the high end primer I would compare this to is the Smashbox Original.  The downside is the $12.99 price for a drugstore item but if it performs as well as high end, I won't complain and will definitely repurchase.

See some of the other primers I have tried

L'Oreal Voluminous Primer/Base  - What I love about this mascara primer is EVERYTHING!  The price is $8.99 but often goes on sale.  It makes my eyelashes crazy long and a little fuller as well.  And it makes my mascara come off a little easier at the end of the day.  This compares to the Dior primer I have been using and actually I think is a little better.  Don't waste your money on high end in this area...give L'Oreal a try!  I wear it under my fave Maybelline Lash Sensational

Retail $58

NCLA Mani-ER Tool Kit - This is a cute, compact nail kit.
Retail $16

Briogeo Don't Despair Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask - I tried this in a sample and liked how it performed but the scent is somewhat herbal/mediciney

iOS 10 Trick

Messaging trick, Apple, iPhone, iOS
If you haven't updated your iPhone/iPad to iOS 10 yet, there are a few fun things that might motivate you.  One of them I just found tonight that I haven't heard from anyone else yet is enhanced messaging.

1.  Go to Messages

2.  Type your message (you have to select a recipient before it will work)

3.  Rather than click the arrow to send, hold it down to bring up the Send with Effect Screen

4.  There you can either send with bubble effect (Slam, Loud, Gentle or Invisible Ink) - 3rd picture is invisible ink.  When you send with that, the recipient has to click the message to read it

5.  Send with Screen Effect gives you five background choices (fireworks, confetti, balloons, lasers or shooting star)

It's a fun way to send messages besides just adding emojis!  Which by the way, another trick for messages that you may have already discovered is next to the message click the "application icon".  There you will find animated pics to send too.

Sedu Revolution Flat Iron Review

sedu, beveled edges, quick heat up, auto shut off, long cord, professional, flat iron, curling iron
I thought that my Solia flat iron might be on its last leg so I decided to get a new one since I didn't have a back-up.  Now my Solia is a travel iron and my Sedu Revolution is my everyday flat iron.

I purchased my Sedu from Folica.  At the time they had a good sale price with free shipping.

Here are my thoughts:

Beveled edges -  because I like to grab my hair at the scalp, pull out and curl it under just slightly to give my hair some extra volume

Floating plates - My Solia also had this feature and I like the way it grabs the hair

Long cord - I think this one is a 9 foot cord but it is also covered with nylon and it rotates

Quick heat up - I don't know how many times I forget to turn on my iron before I start getting ready.  This one heats up very quickly up to 450 degrees

Auto shut-off - Just like I forget to turn it on, I also forget to turn it off.  With this, it turns off after an hour without use

Warranty - 2 years

Price - $130 regular price but I got mine for $85

I think given the performance of both flat irons I would re-purchase the Solia when this one quits working. The Solia was about $20 less I think and the performance was pretty equal the the Sedu as long as the new models had an auto shut off.  That is a biggie for me.  I also think the Sedu has slightly longer plates but that is not a deal breaker for the Solia.

Ulta September 2016 Haul

20% off, Eva nye hair mask, covergirl outlast all-day primer, L'Oreal Voluminous Primer Mascara, Sun Bum spa, e Booth almond firming lotion
Ulta currently has a 20% off your entire purchase promotion that I think ends today (9/3).  Although it excludes the high end products, there was plenty I needed that was covered by the discount:

L'Oreal Voluminous Prime/Base Mascara - I am hoping this is as good as the Lancome primer that I am currently using.  That sample is about to run out and $9 is a lot better than $24

Sun Bum 15 SPF Lotion - Probably a little late in the season to be buying lotion but 15 is what I use most of the time so it won't go to waste.  I am also in hopes that summer isn't quite over yet

e. Booth Almond Firming Lotion - I have reviewed this before.  It is my favorite lotion.  It moisturizes and smells amazing.  A little sweet but not overpowering.  The scent fades quickly.  Firming it is not but I have tried other lotions that still leave my skin itchy so continue to go back to this one

Eva Nye Therapy Session Hair Mask - I finally finished my Macadamia Mask but I wasn't as pleased with it.  I purchased it from Amazon so perhaps it was a fake or old but I thought this was a good time to try something new.  This had good reviews so will give it a try.  Review to come

Covergirl Outlast All-Day Primer - This also had good reviews and I am a sucker for a primer.  This was a little on the spendy side at $12.99 but with the 20% off it was worth a try

Samples: Hask Macadamia Oil Shampoo and Conditioner and Living Proof Perfect Hair Day

Summer Fave - Host Freeze Cooling Wine Glasses

Plastic, reusable, freeze, cooling, wine, prosecco
The HOST Freeze Cooling Wine Glasses are  definitely a summer favorite but I use them all year long.  I have purchased a set for myself, my mom and my son's girlfriend as we are all wine/Prosecco drinkers.

What I like about these glasses is that there is quite a bit of freezing gel in them so they stay cold for quite awhile and they have a rubber grip around them to make them easy to handle. The downside is that they sweat BUT not a deal breaker at all as they keep my beverage of choice ice cold!

Another downside is getting a defective glass as I recently did purchasing a couple of sets from  As I mentioned in on my Facebook page, both sets came with a lot less liquid and had air bubbles so the seal had obviously broke.  But worse than that was their return policy.  I had to send pictures (thankfully I had a good set) showing what was wrong, had to wait for them to communicate with the maker then to get word from them.  It's been almost 10 days and I still have not gotten a refund but they did finally admit they were defective.

The sets that I have purchased prior were from Amazon.  I will only deal with them going forward.

If you like cold wine/Prosecco, I highly recommend.  I have had the good sets for over a year without any issues.  Just be sure to hand wash them and they will be good to you!

August 2016 PopSugar Must Have Box

power charger, cargo blush, Cookie Pop cookies and cream popcorn, Duck bag, sticky notes, screen cleaner
It's been awhile since I can say that I love everything in the PopSugar Must Have Box but August had some pleasant surprises!

Cargo Cosmetics "The Big Easy" Powder Blush - a soft peach color that I think would compliment any complexion; however, it might not show up well on darker skin
Retail $26

Cookie Pop Popcorn in Cookies & Cream -  This looks and sounds delicious but we will see.  It could go either way
Retail $3.99

Unplugged Dusti Screen Cleaner - The cleaners stick to your phone or phone cases.  Can be washed and reused.  It's a great concept but they are pretty small
Retail $5.99

Baggu Duck Bag - This is not something I would have purchased for myself, which is why I love these subscription boxes, but I love this bag.  I actually put the bag of popcorn in it to stand it up and you can't even see it.  The bag is pretty tall.  It is made of a heavy canvas that is made from recycled fabric, has an adjustable strap and an inside pocket.  Visit their website for more information, pictures and color choices
Retail $26

Triple C PowerGloss in Silver - A portable charger.  We have a couple of these and when we had a power outage found that they came in really handy.  This one is sleek and perfect for your handbag
Retail $30

Christian Lacroix Paris Paseo Sticky Note Folio - This is also great for your handbag.  Sticky notes come in handy while in the car or out and about
Retail $13

Dash Go Rapid Egg Cooker

poached eggs, soft boiled eggs, omelette, quick, fast breakfast
The DashNGo Egg cooker will definitely be in my summertime favorites (soon to be up on my blog).

To be honest, I purchased this egg cooker from Kohl's about six months ago and it has been sitting in my cupboard until one day I remembered I bought it and thought I should probably give it a try.

Mornings can get a little hectic so what I do is get the dog fed, get an egg cooking, put toast in the toaster oven and get ready. By the time I finish my make-up, the egg and toast are done, PERFECTLY!  You can choose soft, medium or hard boiled or you can make a poached egg or an omelette.  The omelette doesn't really make sense to me but I have used the poaching tray and it also works great!

You just pour the water in the cup for the desired cook, poke the egg with the little "pin" on the bottom of the water container, put the lid on, turn it on and walk away.  Now don't be alarmed, it isn't a spaceship landing, it is the timer letting you know the eggs are done.

For under $15, this invention is pretty amazing.  I think you can cook up to six eggs at one time but only two poached.

I purchased mine from Kohl's but they also carry them on Amazon.  Using coupons/coupon codes on along with EBates may make it a little cheaper than Amazon but it is worth the price no matter where you end up getting it.

First Impressions: Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes

deodorant wipes, under arm, pacifica, feet, coconut milk
I received the Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes in the June PopSugar Box and when I first opened them, I was a little taken back by the scent.  Not pleasant in my mind (or nose).  I can't really describe it, just wasn't something I wanted to smell like on a hot day.  So, they sat in my drawer for awhile until during such hot day my feet were getting a little sweaty in my sandals.  A light bulb went off.  Who says you have to use them under your arms?!  I took out a wipe and rubbed it on the soles of my feet.  The smell of these is at least better than stinky feet.

It performed okay. I liked that it dried to kind a matte feel so that my feet weren't slippery.  It seems to keep them drier than they would be normally on a warm day and did control the foot odor to some extent.  Now mind you, this is not the intention of these wipes given that they have "underarm" in the name but if you purchased a package and thought the same thing I did upon getting a whiff, you may want to consider other applications.

Would I repurchase?  No.  But at least they aren't going to waste.

First Impressions: Native Deodorant

paragon free, aluminum free, unscented, deodorant, natural
I've been on the hunt for a good natural deodorant.  If it helped control wetness without the bad stuff, that would be great too but probably not too likely.  Although I have to say the Arm & Hammer does a pretty good job.

Real Simple had an article about natural deodorants and Native was the highest rated.  I got the unscented because I really don't like my deodorant to overpower my perfume.

It went on nicely, didn't leave white marks that I could tell but I really wasn't looking for it and there was absolutely NO scent.

Let me tell you, I don't know what Real Simple was talking about.  I typically don't get stinky pits that easily.  Especially after just showering but this stuff did not work at all.  I don't know if it was the ingredients mixing with my own body chemicals or what but it was not good.

After I received the product I got an email from Native with helpful hints with the last line reading "It can take up to 14 days to get the maximum effectiveness.  Stick with it."  REALLY?!  14 days of stinky pits in order for it to work?  Why do you have to wait that long for it to be effective? I don't get that at all.

For $12, it should have been a lot better than the LaVanilla but it didn't even come close.  Don't waste your money on this product.

If you have any other suggestions, please share them in the comment section!

sachajuan, house of pom, michael stars, pintrill, sunny life, european wax center, joes chips, snacks, home, drink holder
Sadly I have to say, the July 2016 PopSugar Must Have box is probably the most disappointing I have received since I signed up.  The box included:

Sachajuan Hair in the Sun - Not really sure how to use it so if you have have used this before I would love to hear from you in the comments below
Retail $32

House of Pom Emoji Cocktail Napkins - Cute but...
Retail $25

Retail $30 (wow)

Pintrill Pineapple Pin - Again, cute but what do you do with it?!
Retail $12

Sunnylife Inflatable Swan Drink Holder - REALLY?  WTH am I suppose to do with this?  It doesn't even look big enough to hold a normal size glass or beer and even if it was...
Retail $18

European Wax Center Oh My Brow Brow Highlighter - This isn't too bad
Retail $19

Joe Chips Classic Sea Salt Retro Potato Chips - Although it is free of a lot of things, it doesn't say Non-GMO
Retail $1.49

Trash OR Treasures Early Summer 2016 Edition

skincare, cosmetics, shampoo, hair care, styling products, makeup, samples, scentsy, wipes
It's time for another round of TRASH or TREASURES.

Dior Forever Foundation - This was highly rated on but I just didn't care for it.  The coverage wasn't as good as others I have tried and it wasn't flattering to my skin type (larger pores, some fine lines, dry in spots but oily t-zone).  The full size is $50

Marc Jacobs Perfecting Coconut Primer - This was okay but I didn't do what I need a primer to do which is address my problem areas as mentioned above.  Full size is $44 on

Trish McEvoy Instant Solutions BB - This is a spendy product at $85 (now on sale at Nordstrom) so I had high expectations.  You have to apply this lightly and quickly for when it drys it is SET!  It really helped keep my oily spots under control, I don't feel like it did much for evening my skin tone but it did help my makeup stay longer than a lot of other primers I have tried.  I don't use BB creams for foundation, I want them to perform as a primer

Revlon ColorStay 24 Hour Foundation - This is a drugstore favorite and will continue to purchase

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream - This was actually in a subscription box from years ago and finally finished it.  I have since purchased another one as I really like how it evens out my skin tone.  I can use this as a quick out the door product.  It really doesn't do much else that I can tell but it doesn't accentuate my fine lines or pores

ColorPop Cream Eye Shadow - I like these products but if you don't screw the lids on tight, they are going to dry out.  I think you need to commit to using them pretty quickly

Revlon Volume + Length Mascara - This was in a subscription box and not worth the money.  I will see if anyone else wants to give it a try

Boscia Blotting Papers - These perform well and are my favorite blotting papers.  They remove the oil and not the makeup

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle - I forgot how much I like this conditioner.  I have been using it daily as an apply and rinse but also as a hair mask.  Both work well and do not weigh down my fine hair

L'Oreal Boost It Air Blown Texture Mist - I have two back ups of this product.  Volume without weighing down and the smell is nice

Body Products
Alba Very Emollient Cream Shave in Mango Vanilla - I have been using this product for a long time.  I like the scent and the moisturizing effect and will continue to repurchase

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash - My skin needs something moisturizing without a lot of scents which can sometimes irritate my skin.  I love this and will continue to repurchase

Paula's Choice Resist Foaming BHA 4% - I really like what this product does for my skin.  It makes it brighter and helps control breakouts.  I have reordered but the recent bottle has a bothersome scent.  Almost like rotten meat or something.  I contacted Paula's Choice and they did send out a new bottle but it was the same thing.  You can't smell it until you have applied it to your skin.  Anyone else having this issue?

Swisspers Cotton Rounds - These were a Costco purchase and a great deal.  I will repurchase

Honest Wipes - I have repurchased and will continue

Honest Dryer Clothes - I have repurchased and will continue.  If you are sensitive to dryer sheets or don't like your clothes smelling like dryer sheets, these are for you

Scentsy Bars in Root Beer Float, Sticky Cinnamon Bun and Silver Bells - Sticky Cinnamon Bun is no longer available so I am really bummed about that.  Root Beer Float is also retired and Silver Bells I think is just a winter scent but they are all my faves
